Two expressions which, taken together, articulate not merely an existential condition, but a declaration of presence, tenacity, and identity. The strength of dialect—or, more precisely, of the Sicilian language—lies in its capacity to render tangible a collective state of mind: a language that does not merely describe, but gives form to experience; that does not allude, but leaves its mark.
Within this framework, frustration belongs more to the walnut than to the patient mouse, which is fully aware of its own capabilities and driven by a tenacious desire for redemption. It is a proud form of perseverance characteristic of those who live and work at the margins: noble peripheries, certainly, yet distant from the self-congratulatory gaze of the mainstream.
In the contemporary visual arts, where criteria of recognition and value are increasingly shaped by external demands—economic, media-driven, and relational—at the expense of quality and artistic research, Resilienza assumes the significance of a necessary response. It reasserts art as a field of experimentation, risk, and difference, in opposition to the reassuring uniformity that characterizes the official art circuit.
It is within this context that the work of Barbara Cammarata and Francesco Lauretta emerges: two painters endowed with an unusually robust visual language, a muscular physicality of paint, and a learned, deeply rooted eclecticism. Cammarata’s vision opens onto intrapsychic and otherworldly realms inhabited by beings with human bodies and animal heads; suspended universes that engage in dialogue with the radical circularity of Lauretta’s painterly thinking, grounded above all in the uniqueness of the artwork and in the performative and relational dimensions of his practice.
Two autonomous yet complementary trajectories which, brought into proximity, reinforce a reflection on the role of the artist as a figure irreducible to the logic of standardization and conformity.
Resilienza thus becomes a manifesto: an assertion of an artistic identity that does not seek legitimization, but asserts itself with force. A clear and powerful declaration: qua siamo—here we are.
